Gullrow Steps, Puddleport PT4 2QE

Come and find the hatch

It is the blue shutter halfway down the steps, under the yellow awning, with a queue in front of it from about half eleven. Flump is the one waving.

Thursday to Sunday11am until the tubs run outCollection always free
OPEN

The hatch

Eight flavours on the board, chalked up at eleven

The scooping cabinet holds eight of the twelve, and which eight depends on what went out of the freezer at the weekend. If you have walked down for something in particular, ring first and we will put a cone-worth aside.

If the shutter is down

It means the tubs went. There is a chalkboard on the shutter saying what time we ran out and what is going in the churn on Thursday, which is the closest thing Puddleport has to a local paper.

Where the van parks this week

Same five stops every week since 2019. It turns up within about ten minutes of these times unless the Nettlefold Road is shut again.

  1. Mon

    Nettlefold Green, by the bandstand

3.15pm to 5pm. School run stop, so the queue is children and it moves fast. Cones only, no tubs on the van on a Monday.

  2. Wed

    Hallam Lane car park

11am to 2pm. Cones and 500ml tubs. This is the stop to collect a box from if the steps are a nuisance for you.

  3. Fri

    The slipway, bottom of Gullrow

6pm until dark. Cones, tubs and the party tubs if somebody has ordered one. Bring a coat, it is the windiest spot in Puddleport.

  4. Sat

    The twelve-mile delivery ring

8am to noon, doorsteps only — the van is full of cold boxes and is not serving. You get a text when it is two stops away.

  5. Sun

    Dunnock Farm gate, Nettlefold

12.30pm to 4pm. Parked next to the cows whose cream is in the tub, which children find either wonderful or upsetting.

This is the whole of it

Three huts, a sea wall, a slipway and one van. Puddleport is not a big place and we are not a big ice cream company, which suits everybody.

Walk down, or let the van come to you

Either way it is the same ice cream and the same price. The van just saves you the steps.

Saturday deliveries are booked by Wednesday 6pm · £4.80, free over £40, twelve miles out of Puddleport
